Composer/pianist Akira Kosemura, who is one of the most streamed Japanese classical artists and has received praise from influential media in many countries, including "His melodies are endless and set him apart from other musicians" (Pitchfork), is now releasing a new EP,『Pause (almost equal to) Play』.
Kosemura has composed music not only for his own films but also for a number of well-known films, dramas, games and commercials in Japan and abroad, including the Cannes Film Festival official selection "True Mothers" (directed by Kawase Naomi) and the popular US TV drama "Love Is". He is a rare artist who continues to be active both in Japan and abroad, and his talent has been enthusiastically supported by eminent artists such as Devendra Banhart, Gilles Peterson and M83.
This work is a collaboration work with the fashion brand TAKAHIROMIYASHITAtheSoloist. which is handled by designer Takahiro Miyashita who has a deep friendship with Kosemura. It contains 4 songs produced for the 2022 spring/summer collection in September 2021. Takahiro Miyashita is in charge of the artwork for this work.
Kosemura says about this film, "This piece was made when I was once stopping to look at myself again. Miyashita-san was very attentive to my situation and cared about me so that I could do my best. The music that came out of pausing, for me, was full of a sense of what was to come".
Miyashita, who used the music in his collection, said about the EP "For me, it was a collection that looked back at me. Kosemura-san is always in my brain. It was natural for me to ask Kosemura-sa to write music. And Kosemura-san delivered a very beautiful gift. It was like we both took a new step forward at the same time. If there will ever come a day when I look back on my life... this gift has shown me that I am who I am meant to be. And I can say that with confidence".
Akira Kosemura's new work 『Pause (almost equal to) Play』" is a close collaboration with Miyashita Takahiro. The interview with Akira Kosemura about this work has been released and you can check it out below.
